Many great
inventions are greeted with ridicule and disbelief. The invention of the
airplane was no exception. Although many people, who heard about the first
powered flight on December 17, 1903, were excited and impressed, others reacted
with peals of laughter. The idea of flying an aircraft was repulsive to some
people. Such people called Wilbur and Orville Wright, the inventors of the
first flying machine, impulsive fools. Negative reactions, however, did not
stop the Wrights. Impelled by their desire to succeed, they continued their
experiments in aviation.
Orville and
Wilbur Wright had always had a compelling interest in aeronautics and
mechanics. As young boys they earned money by making and selling kites and
mechanical toys. Later, they designed a newspaper- folding machine, built a
printing press, and operated a bicycle-repair shop. In 1896, when they read
about the death of Otto Lilienthal, the brother's interest in flight grew into
a compulsion.
Lilienthal,
a pioneer in hang-gliding, had controlled his gliders by shifting his body in
the desired direction. This idea was repellent to the Wright brothers, however,
and they searched for more efficient methods to control the balance of airborne
vehicles. In 1900 and 1901, the Wrights tested numerous gliders and developed
control techniques. The brothers' inability to obtain enough lift power for the
gliders almost led them to abandon their efforts.
After
further study, the Wright brothers concluded that the published tables of air
pressure on curved surfaces must be wrong. They set up a wind tunnel and began
a series of experiments with model wings. Because of their efforts, the old
tables were repealed in time and replaced by the first reliable figures for air
pressure on curved surfaces. This work, in turn, made it possible for them to
design a machine that would fly. In 1903 the Wrights built their first
airplane, which cost less than one thousand dollars. They even designed and
built their own source of propulsion, a lightweight gasoline engine. When they
started the engine on December 17, the airplane pulsated wildly before taking
off. The plane managed to stay aloft for twelve seconds, however, and it flew
one hundred twenty feet.
By 1905 the
Wrights had perfected the first airplane that could turn, circle, and remain
airborne for half an hour at a time. Others had flown in balloons or in hang
gliders, but the Wright brothers were the first to build a full-size machine
that could fly under its own power. As the contributors of one of the most
outstanding engineering achievements in history, the Wright brothers are
accurately called the fathers of aviation.

b. Does marriage differ culture to
culture? How is a marriage practice in Nepal different from the marriage
practice discussed in the essay, "Marriage as a Social Institution"?
Ans:- Yes, marriage
practices differ from culture to culture, and in Nepal, the marriage practices
differ significantly from those discussed in the essay "Marriage as a
Social Institution." In Nepal, marriages are typically arranged by the
families of the bride and groom, with little to no input from the couple
themselves. The marriage is viewed as a union between families, rather than
just between two individuals.
In contrast, the essay
"Marriage as a Social Institution" discusses marriage in the context
of Western culture, where individuals have greater autonomy in choosing their
partners. In this context, marriage is viewed as a way for individuals to express
their love and commitment to one another, rather than just as a means of
forming alliances between families.
Additionally, In Nepal,
marriage is often viewed as a duty and obligation, particularly for women. Women
are expected to marry and have children, and those who remain unmarried are
often stigmatized and ostracized by society several pre-wedding and
post-wedding rituals, such as the "sagun" ceremony and the
"bidaal" ceremony, which are not typically found in Western cultures.
In conclusion, marriage practices
differ from culture to culture, and in Nepal, marriage is typically arranged by
families and viewed as a duty and obligation, with a focus on forming alliances
between families. In contrast, in Western cultures, individuals have greater autonomy
in choosing their partners, and marriage is viewed as a way for individuals to
express their love and commitment to one another. The customs and traditions
surrounding marriage also differ between cultures.

to 161,000, representing an overall growth rate of around 25% The growth rate
for each gender is different, with the male population growing at a faster rate
than the female population 1990, there were 50.000 males and 48,000 females,
while in 2000, there were 60.000 males and 56,000 females. This represents a
growth rate of 20% for the male population and 16.7% for the female population.
The
population of children in the city also increased significantly over the
10-year period. In 1990, there were 30.000 children in the city, while in 2000,
there were 45.000 representing a growth rate of 50% This suggests that the city
experienced an increase in families and a higher birth rate over the decade.

Sub:- Misuse Of Social Media By
Students And Its Control Measures
Respected
Sir,
I am writing to express my concern about the
impact of social media on students' studies. In recent years, platforms like
Facebook and TikTok have become ubiquitous, and while they offer some benefits,
they also present significant risks to students' academic performance.
One of the
main problems with social media is that it can be incredibly distracting Students
often spend hours scrolling through their feeds, watching videos, and chatting
with friends, which can severely impact their ability to focus on their
studies. This can result in poor academic performance, missed assignments, and
even failure to graduate.
To address
this issue, schools and universities need to take concrete measures to regulate
social media use among students. For example, they could introduce policies
that restrict the use of social media during school hours or in specific
locations, such as classrooms or libraries. Additionally, educators could
provide resources and workshops to help students manage their social media use
and prioritize their academic work.
Another
effective solution could be to create online platforms that are specifically
designed to support academic learning. By creating spaces where students can
collaborate and share resources, educators can help students engage with their
studies more effectively while also providing a viable alternative to social
media.
In conclusion,
the impact of social media on students' studies cannot be ignored. We need to
take proactive steps to ensure that students are able to balance their social
media use with their academic commitments, and I urge schools and universities
to take the lead in implementing these measures.
Sincerely,
………………

Dear Dairy,
I am feeling
very excited about our school picnic tomorrow! We are going to a beautiful park
just outside the city, and I can't wait to spend the day exploring and having
fun with my classmates and teachers.
I have
planned out my day in advance so that I can make the most of our time at the
park. I'm going to start by playing some outdoor games with my friends, like
frisbee and badminton. We will then have a picnic lunch with sandwiches, chips,
and juice that we all brought from home. I'm especially excited to try some of
the special homemade snacks that my friends have promised to bring.
After lunch,
we are planning to go on a nature walk and explore the park's trails. I love
being out in nature, so this is something I'm really looking forward to. We
will also have a scavenger hunt, where we will have to find different items
around the park and complete some fun challenges along the way I'm hoping to
work together with my friends and see who can finish first.
Later in the
afternoon, we have planned to have some more fun activities like tug-of-war and
a water balloon fight. I'm excited about these activities because they are so
much fun and bring us all together as a group. As the day goes on, I hope to
explore more of the park. taking in the beautiful scenery and enjoying the
fresh air. I'm also looking forward to spending time with my classmates,
chatting and laughing as we enjoy the day together. Finally, we will end our
day with a group photo to capture all the memories we have created on this
picnic.
Overall, I'm
really looking forward to our school picnic tomorrow. I'm hoping to have a
great time with my classmates and teachers and create some unforgettable
memories. I'm sure it will be a day full of laughter, fun, and learning. I
can't wait to share all about it with you, diary!
Goodnight!!
